  • Awards for the 1st Archaeological Photography Contest, "Arqueofoto Villas Romanas de Hispania 2021", have been announced.

On March 3, the jury of the 1st Archaeological Photography Contest, “Arqueofoto Villas Romanas de Hispania ’21”, organized by the National Association Villas Romanas de Hispania and the newspaper El Comercio from Gijón, took place. The images were selected from a total of 676 submitted, corresponding to the 197 participants in both categories eligible for prizes in this edition.

The jury agreed to award first prize in the adult category to Javier Sánchez Campos for “Piedra y tinta”, Cástulo, Linares (Jaén). The second and third prizes went to Juan Montero Martín for, “Antigua mina romana de Mercadal”, Cartes, (Cantabria) and Antonio Mármol Gómez for, “Los vigilantes de la campiña”, Torreparedones, Baena (Córdoba), respectively.

In the under 16 category, the first prize went to Enol Solar Pérez for “Julio César en Veranes”, Villa Romana de Veranes (Gijón), while the second prize went to the photograph entitled “Acueducto romano de Segovia”, by Leonor Santos Carretero.

The images submitted covered practically the entire Iberian Peninsula in a successful participation that more than fulfills the objective of showing and disseminating the archaeological heritage of Roman Hispania, thus contributing to its conservation.

The winning photographs, along with a wide selection of those submitted, will be part of the traveling exhibition that will tour Spain in the coming months.
